Piper Companies Makes Mental Well-Being a Priority for Employees

Boon provided Piper and its employees with a simple, modern, and easy-to-use program that allowed them to set aside dedicated time for mental well-being.

15

increase in overall resilience score measured over 6 sessions of Boon Coaching.

20

of Piper’s employees had scheduled their first session with a coach within the first week.

91

retention (scheduling at least two sessions with one’s coach) was reached.

The Background

In early 2020, several weeks after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with stay-at-home orders becoming the norm across the U.S., Piper Companies (“Piper”) was beginning to see the toll of the current environment on its employees.

In response, the Piper leadership team began to explore options to boost team morale and prioritize mental wellness as an organization. While virtual happy hours, fitness apps, and flexible work hours all proved to be valuable, Piper wanted a solution dedicated to helping employees do more than cope during unprecedented times.

The Solution

Boon and Piper collaborated to market the program to Piper’s employees through direct communications from company leadership as well as Boon Health’s Welcome Survey dissemination to Piper’s 130 employees in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Raleigh. Within the first week of the launch, almost 20% of Piper’s employees had scheduled their first session with a coach – reaching 6x the average utilization rate of traditional Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).

The Results

Throughout the Boon coaching program at Piper Companies:

  • Retention (scheduling at least two sessions with one’s coach) has stayed exceptionally high at 91% and the number of employees taking advantage of the service has continued to increase.
  • Increases in resilience scores were seen across several clients with one employee’s score increasing by 38%.
  • Employees remark that they are feeling more productive at work, better able to manage stress, and feeling more optimistic about the future, some significant benefits considering all of the challenges that employees are currently facing.

Resilience as a Sign of Progress

Piper was excited to partner with Boon to not only assist employees but also because Boon understands the value of building resilience in the workforce. Research confirms that increases in employee resilience contribute to improved work performance, higher levels of motivation at work, greater job satisfaction and happiness, among other benefits. To ensure that Piper’s leadership could see the ROI of offering Boon coaching to its employees, Boon provided routine resilience score data to the team. The positive outcomes were clear. Resilience scores for those who had measured in the top quartile at the beginning of their coaching experience remained while for those who began in the bottom quartile, we saw a 15% increase over six sessions.

We were both humbled and thrilled that so many of our employees chose to take advantage of the Boon coaching sessions. While the data and engagement trends have been positive since beginning our Boon partnership, hearing feedback from some of our team members that their Boon sessions made a huge impact on their lives and well-being reaffirmed our decision to partner with the Boon team and their coaching-on-demand model.
