How often do we find ourselves with such a long list of ‘to-dos’ that we run in circles and don’t accomplish any of them? Or just deflect completely by diving into social media or lunch with a co-worker? Time management is difficult for many, especially if you are new to working from home.

Here are a few simple tips that can help employees focus and become more productive, which can also lead to a sense of accomplishment instead of feeling overwhelmed.

Write A To-Do List

Life is much easier if we can see what we must do clearly written down. This is a great exercise to do at the end of the workday or the end of the evening. Keep a notebook (or use your notes app on your phone) and write down everything you need to accomplish the following day. That way you can check off that list through the day.

Prioritize

Put the most urgent tasks first and make those the focus. Drafting notes for a meeting with the CEO is more important than organizing your filing cabinet. Using the SMART method can be a great help- Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely.

Delegate

Can your assistant create the agenda for your meeting? Then let them. Don’t try to do everything yourself.

Just Say No

If your plate is full and someone asks you to help them with a project, simply say no. Know your limits.

Say No To ‘Half-Work’

When you are writing a report and get sucked into Instagram -- stop yourself. Keep focused to complete a task. Turn your phone on silent while you are working on that report and maybe try putting a ‘do not disturb’ sign on your office door or on the side of your cubicle.

Allow Yourself Grace

If you don’t get it all done, don’t be hard on yourself. Things come up and some items can roll over to the next day.

Organizing your time can also feel overwhelming for some. Working with a coach is a great way to have someone to bounce ideas off of, write schedules/routines with and who can hold you accountable.
